Milano Cento – a long running passion project
CPL Aromas is proud to be an independent and family-owned fragrance house and that feeling runs through every Division and team. From its inception nearly 50 years ago, CPL has created fragrances that infuse happiness around the globe. The company has formed many long-term collaborations and are always aiming to help the companies in which we partner with to thrive, helping their scented projects become a reality.
One such collaboration spanning over 3 decades is with the brand Milano Cento. The fragrance Milano Cento HIM was first launched in the 80s by business partners Dean Tatum and the late Matthew Bright. It came at a time when men’s fashion and style were big and the obsession for looking good and smelling good had started to grow. Tatum and Bright saw an opportunity and sold their interior design business to begin this new venture into men’s fragrances.
The men visited the then CPL Aromas Hub at Barrington Hall to talk over the project and come up with fragrance ideas. As it turns out, the perfumer in charge of designing the fragrance was none other than the beloved, late Francis Pickthall, who created a fragrance which was perfect for the project. A fresh and vibrant blend of citrus and zesty top notes, an herbaceous mix of rosemary, lavender and basil at the heart with a warming base of musk, woods and spices, make this scent a perfect modern but classic men’s fragrance.
In 2016 the brand relaunched and what originally started out as a birthday gift for co-founder Dean Tatum by his family has turned into a revamp of the brand, relaunching the scent that has stood the test of time and become a small family business. And although the packaging may have been modernised and the logo refreshed, the scent still remains the same distinctive Fougère aroma.
Chris Pickthall, CEO of CPL Aromas, commented “I am so pleased Milano Cento is still selling well. I remember the project very well from way back when. The fragrance was created by Francis so that is really important and poignant for us”.
The Milano Cento brand is now a passion project of the Tatum family, whose aim is to grow it organically, and to support their specialised and niche stockists in a personal way - a mentality that CPL can relate to.
