December- the most festive time of the year, full of warming spices, mulled fruit and sweet sensuous chocolate scents filling the air, mingling with the smell of the crimson log fires after a cold crisp walk in the wintery breeze.
Enter January- the festive season is out of the way and all that is left is the dreary damp air, weight gain and the dribs and drabs of the January sales, it can feel like such a gloomy time.
Whilst there is not a lot that can be done to change the weather, there are things that can make January seem a little more bearable- once all the leftovers are finished.
Embrace the smells of past celebrations, mix them with sugary vanilla candles and honeyed room sprays, cook the comforting rich food that will indulge the cold weather cravings. Then when it’s finally too much, January becomes a great time for a big clean up. Clean up the house, the fridge and even the mood. Spritz the house from top to bottom with overdosed citrus soaps, wash bed sheets and beddings in a delightfully fresh linen fragranced detergent and fill the fridge with the freshest of fruit and vegetables, every shape and every size.
Awaken the senses each morning with a detoxifying ginger and lemon tea, rejuvenate the palette with crisp fresh fruit and spray the room with uplifting notes of grapefruit and eucalyptus. January is a time for new starts and new beginnings, not feeling the strain of the season just passed.
January can be spent dreaming of escaping to a different land, indulging in warm cosy nights in, refreshing a wardrobe with new staples for the next season or recharging with a new routine.
