Today marks World Environment Day. This is the most renowned day for environmental action. Since 1974, it has been celebrated every year on 5th June – engaging governments, businesses, celebrities and citizens to focus their efforts on a pressing environmental issue.

This year’s theme is #Biodiversity. It is quite clear that the increase in the human population and its consequences (the waste we produce, the deforestation and global warming) are all reducing biodiversity in our planet.

At CPL Aromas we want to “walk the talk” with regards to sustainability and our efforts towards the environment. As our CEO, Chris Pickthall, said: “We don’t want our sustainability efforts to be just a ‘green tick’ on the proverbial corporate agenda, something to think of once a year and then discard. We are convinced, now more than ever, that CPL Aromas’ purpose is to change the world for good.”

To that end, we are taking huge steps to reducing energy, having installed solar panels in two of our factories (and in Dubai having seen a reduction of energy usage of almost 90% in Q1 2020). We are also working to drastically reduce our impact on the Earth, having recycled over 600 tonnes of waste globally in 2019. We are in the details too, like our switch to only using recycled paper for the whole of our UK manufacturing site.

We encourage you to visit the UN’s World Environment Day page and to think of ways you can reduce your footprint in the world moving forward. We are here to help and work together towards a better future for us and our children.
